"Dream, Dream, Dream! Conduct these dreams into thoughts, and then transform them into action."
- Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
Breaking stereotypes, a mother in Mumbai stops sending her daughter to school when she is in seventh standard. She teaches her at home and lets her explore her interests. The daughter develops an interest in computer programming, goes on to become a three-time medal winner at International Olympiad of Informatics. And the most amazing part of the story, without a 10th or 12th certificate, gets admitted directly into the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)!
Meet seventeen-year-old Malvika Raj Joshi, whose mother Supriya did the unthinkable, by pulling her out of school four years back. According to Supriya, her daughter’s happiness was more important than conventional knowledge, so she quit her job and began teaching Malvika at home in a stress-free environment. The decision was risky because Indian universities and even IIT didn’t give admission to Malvika, as she didn’t have 12th certificate. However, MIT was flexible and looking at her achievements, not only gave her admission, but provided her scholarship too. According to Supriya, all parents should focus on their children’s interests, rather than on marks and certificates.
